A grimacing, toothy and bearded colonial with a monkey on his back. In fact, the monkey is seated on the integrated stem of the pipe, its tail entwining it with a delightful sensitivity. Its spatulate, long toed feet are pressed against the back of the man’s head. The artist has made a remarkably playful and characterful pipe which might be interpreted as a tease to their colonial masters.
