A European leather belt has been beaded with the wavy lines and arches used by the Maasai. The colour palette is typical of early 20th century pieces, lacking the orange and bright green used in later pieces. The European leather belt would have been a prestige item both for it’s rarity and it’s curiosity value.
There is a very similar piece in the collection of the Museum of Natural History in New York, Catalog No: 90.1/ 7653. It was donated to the museum in 1944.
