This large, charming and whimsical spoon would have been carved in the early 20th century for the colonial market. There are two other known examples of this type of spoon. They would appear to be from the same carver or workshop. One was sold on Nov.29 1983 at Christies South Kensington in London. The other was published in Afrikanische Loffel (African Spoons) by Ernst Winizki, 1990.
